toosday.

i was so trigger happy today i was almost late for class. but i'm glad i got the shots i did. winter is starting to feel like spring although it's too early to say. people were out playing frisbee and sitting on the grass.

haven't been feeling well the past 2 days but i think it's primarily due to a lack of sleep and psychosymptomatic of stress. i've got a paper to hand in friday noon and one on monday...and my mind's almost a blank canvas for both. i have, however, done the readings, although i've yet to piece together my thoughts. always the most difficult part.

before i scoot off...here's some pics from the lovely pretty campus.

the mountains.

seattle got a light dusting of snow last night.

this morning, there was nary a sign of the cold from the previous day.

think cloudless blue skies, the bright sun and the mountains.

yes, the mountains are almost always obscured by the clouds, so it's a good sign if they're visible.

i took some pics, but didn't get a clear shot. they look muchos better in reality. anyway, i really like how seattle's surrounded by mountains and water.

portland.

oops. majorly late but no impetus to blog of late. no impetus even to watch season 2 of prison break. since when did i possess self-restraint especially when there's plenty of suspense left over from the first season, and of course the devastatingly gorgeous wentworth's intense gaze rivalled only (on television) by grey's mcdreamy. but i digress.

taken at washington park. it was a beautiful sight...downtown and in the distance there was mount hood. i loved washington park...but i was freezing cold the whole time so it wasn't very pleasant though the view was awesome. plus we walked two miles to get to the japanese garden and it turned out to be kinda blah. the park's a great running/hiking/biking trail i would absolutely love when the weather's warmer.

sunset smiles.

it's been a trying week...gotta put it behind me. late nights and puffy eyes. skipped meals and too many cups of coffee. frustration that gave way to exasperation. but in the grand scheme of it all...there's no time to wallow in self-pity for long.

not when there're things like the gorgeous sunset, as captured from my run three days ago.

snow, and snow patrol.

last tuesday came the snow...more of it this time round, about 2 inches. some of the snow had already been cleared away by the snow ploughers when i got around to taking photos after school. still, t'was sort of fun having to trundle through the carpet of snow blanketing the streets.

and so it seemed apt that with the snow, came something precious in the mail.

ahhh!!! i can't wait!

caffeinating.

i am happy, i am high...i think i am addicted to coffee. this city loves it coffee and takes it very seriously. i've cultivated an appreciation for coffee ever since coming here, trying out different types of coffee and of course the different coffee houses/cafes. so far i'm really impressed with the quality they've got. apart from starbucks, i've tried tully's, peet's, bean and bagel, vivace and bulldog news. my favourites so far would be peet's peppermint mocha, bean and bagel's latte, and starbucks white chocolate mocha. yum yum yum. everyday after school i look forward to getting coffee...making a pit stop at a coffee joint en route to the apartment.

anyway...i could get into a lengthy discussion about coffee but i must be disciplined and start on my readings. :p

it was a really lovely saturday. gorgeous blue skies and sunny weather, the smile inducing sort. 5 degrees outside so it's not too cold. off to the farmer's market in the university district, it's an outdoor market where vendors set up stalls in tents selling fresh produce and groceries from around washington. we ended up buying spiced apple cider and pink salmon fillet.

stopped by cafe on the ave...had a delish lemon bar and a brownie. met a fellow singaporean there so we had a nice long chat. laid back ambience and chillout music. my kinda place.

then to bulldog news for the essential latte. i need to stay awake to finish nietzsche, re-read foucault and althusser.
its gonna get philsophical.

keeping afloat.

back from portland and saddled with readings. feeling a tad weary, but all i wanna do right now is to immerse myself with work and block out everything else. i'm happier that way. besides, i really love the academic environment here even though i am studying harder than i do back in singapore. portland was quaint and charming, kinda small, not much of a vibrant nightlife, a little sleepy...but the new people i met made the trip a blast (that, and the tax free shopping). the pictures above were taken in downtown. more to come in a bit.
